How to Get Gems Fast in 99 Nights in the Forest

Gems are the real currency of progression. Two of them gate the last two crafting bench tiers, and neither can be farmed by chopping trees — so the trick is running routes that share travel cost.

Short answer

Run the Ice Temple and the Cultist Stronghold in the same loop. Both are listed as Cultist Gem sources, and the Ice Temple also produces Forest Gems, so one trip feeds two requirements. Fishing is the lowest-combat alternative and can be run from camp.

  • Cultist Gem: Ice Temple, fishing, Cultist kills, Cultist Stronghold.
  • Forest Gem: Ice Temple, fishing, Ruby Chest, Gold Chest, Cultist Stronghold, 100+ day raids.
  • Gem of the Forest: deep temple chests or 100+ day raids.
  • Two Cultist Gems gate Bench 4; one Gem of the Forest gates Bench 5.

The stall this prevents

Reaching Bench 3 with thousands of wood and no gems is the most common way a strong run dies. Start collecting while you are still on Bench 2.

Best value per trip

The combined loop

  1. Plan the trip around the Ice Temple. It is listed for both Cultist Gems and Forest Gems.
  2. Add the Cultist Stronghold. It appears on both gem source lists and sits in the same travel band.
  3. Clear cultists on the way. Cultist kills are themselves a listed Cultist Gem source, so the travel is productive rather than dead time.
  4. Return before dusk. The escort home with gems in your inventory is the highest-value, highest-risk moment of the loop.

Why travel cost is the real currency

In 99 Nights in the Forest the scarce resource is daylight, not materials. Two objectives in one trip cost barely more than one, so the fastest farmers are the ones who batch rather than the ones who run.

If you cannot fight yet

Low-combat options

Fishing is listed as a source for both the Cultist Gem and the Forest Gem. It is slower per hour than a temple run, but it can be done from camp with no combat requirement, which makes it the right answer while your gear is still weak.

  • Fish during the day while you process resources — it is a background activity, not an expedition.
  • Use the downtime to re-arm traps and repair, so the fishing time is not wasted time.
  • Do not rely on fishing alone for the Gem of the Forest — that one is raid and temple content.

Avoid these

What wastes time

  • Running to the Ice Temple for a single gem instead of batching the Stronghold into the same trip.
  • Farming roaming enemies for keys — only Guardian variants drop quest keys.
  • Waiting until Bench 3 to start collecting gems.
  • Assuming chance drops are guaranteed. Bunny Foot, for example, is roughly a 1-in-6 chance.

What to do next

  • Combine the Ice Temple and Cultist Stronghold into one loop.
  • Never run a gem route for a single gem type if two share the trip.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest way to get gems in 99 Nights in the Forest?
Run the two routes that share travel cost: the Ice Temple and the Cultist Stronghold. Both are listed as Cultist Gem sources, and the Ice Temple is also listed for the Forest Gem. Fishing is a third, lower-risk source you can run from camp.
Which gem gates my progress?
Cultist Gem gates Crafting Bench 4 at two copies, and the Gem of the Forest gates Crafting Bench 5 at one copy. Those two are the real progression walls.
Can I get gems without fighting?
Partly. Fishing is listed as a source for both the Cultist Gem and the Forest Gem, so it is the lowest-combat route we can confirm as a lead.
